Hancock Names a Sales Chief

John Hancock Financial's fixed annuities unit has announced the promotion of Bill Swartz to a national sales manager.

He was a senior vice president and western divisional sales manager for the John Hancock annuities division, where he oversaw sales of Venture Variable Annuities, 529 college savings plans, and fixed annuities, the company said on Monday.

In his new role, Mr. Swartz is to lead 10 fixed annuity wholesalers as well as creating and executing a strategy to strengthen sales of Hancock's fixed annuity products. He also is responsible for leveraging distribution opportunities across other company sales units as well as for acquiring accounts and maintaining home-office relationships.

He has worked at Hancock since 1997.

The Boston company is a unit of Toronto's Manulife Financial Corp., which had $363.5 billion of assets under management at Sept. 30.
