The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., a Simsbury, Conn., property and life insurer, announced Thursday that its net income increased 32% in the second quarter.
The company's net income reached $627 million, $1.96 per share, up from $476 million, or $1.52 per share, a year earlier.
Assets under management increased 20% to $405.8 billion.
Ramani Ayer, the company's chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement, “The Hartford delivered greater than 17% return on equity and double-digit book value per share growth over the last twelve months. I am pleased that we are striking the right balance between growth, profitability and risk in our diversified businesses."
