In Brief: Deutsche Funds U.S.-Israeli Data Venture

NEW YORK — DB eVentures, Deutsche Bank AG’s private equity investor fund that is focused on financial services, has announced an equity investment of $4 million in ClearForest Inc.

ClearForest, a joint U.S.-Israeli start-up, has developed a data-extraction system that can read and interpret vast amounts of text, pinpoint relevant information, identify complex relationships, and deliver visual, interactive executive summaries.

While the average human reads about a page a minute, ClearForest’s patent-pending technology can read 200 pages a minute. In less than a day, ClearForest can read hundreds of thousands of documents and extract information dictated by the user’s information needs.

DB eVentures was joined by Polaris Venture Capital, HarbourVest Partners, and Walden Israel, bringing ClearForest’s first closing of the second round of funding to $12 million.
