In Brief: Dot-Com Lender Sheds Unpopular Suffix

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - The lending and real estate technology company ezClose.com has changed its name to BridgeSpan Inc., reflecting the sudden market aversion to companies with "dot-com" in their names.

Company officials said the move better reflects its unique approach of supplying residential real estate closing services through a combination of mortgage professionals and Web-based technology.

Mark Evans, a former executive at Goldman, Sachs & Co., has been named chief executive officer.

Mr. Evans' 20-year career includes stints at Benchmark Capital and Goldman, where he spent 15 years in a variety of senior management posts, including managing director of Goldman Sachs Asia.
