In Brief: Ernst-Young Spins Off Network Alert Unit

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ernst & Young has spun off an electronic security company, eSecurityOnline.com, aimed at helping firms identify and eliminate threats to their networks.

The unit's Online Vulnerability Service provides client companies with details about their network configurations. The eSecurityOnline.com team monitors the systems daily for weaknesses or threats and will alert managers instantly when new vulnerabilities are discovered.

Clients can create custom asset profiles and queries covering more than 2,200 vulnerabilities, 50 operating systems, and various common applications, devices and databases. To stay on top of new threats, the eSecurity team analyzes and reviews more than 300 underground Web sites, 100 news sources, 70-plus mailing lists, and 50 Usenet newsgroups.

The eSecurity Web site also provides research resources for customers to browse and examine.
