In Brief: MBF of Malaysia to Recruit for JCB Co.

MBF Cards, Malaysia's largest nonbank credit card company, has agreed to recruit merchants to accept the cards of JCB Co. Ltd., which operates Japan's largest card network.

The goal is to sign up about 10,000 merchants for JCB within 12 months, the companies said Wednesday. At that rate, JCB merchants in Malaysia (where JCB, of Tokyo, has several other partnerships) will have doubled in a few years. The Kuala Lumpur company will call on some of the 26,000 merchants that take MBF cards and on new merchants.

Kunio Yoshizawa, the president and chief operating officer of JCB's international unit, said in a press release, "JCB considers Malaysia one of its target markets from the card acceptance perspective, as there is an increasing number of JCB card-holding travelers to the region."
