In Brief: MBNA to Use Oracle for Web Procurement

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - MBNA Corp. has licensed Internet procurement software from Oracle Corp.

The Wilmington, Del., credit card issuer and bank holding company said it will use the software to let MBNA employees search for products and services in online catalogues. The software is to eliminate the paper from such transactions. MBNA also plans to use the software to aggregate data from the transactions to analyze purchasing processes and costs.

It said the procurement service will be limited to MBNA's internal purchasing needs and will not be offered to its corporate customers.

"Oracle's Internet-based solution will allow us to streamline our purchasing processes, cut operating costs, and consolidate between 300,000 and 500,000 transactions on goods and services," said Bob Hayman, director of corporate purchasing at MBNA.
