In Brief: Montgomery Investment Banking Exec Quits

Joseph Schell has resigned as co-director of investment banking at Montgomery, the equities unit of BankAmerica Corp.'s section 20 subsidiary, NationsBanc Montgomery Securities.

The 14-year Montgomery veteran, who had planned on leaving in a year or two, said he decided over the weekend to leave in March.

Mr. Schell, 53, said he does not plan to stay in investment banking, and the parting with Montgomery was amicable. More than 40 Montgomery executives have quit since bonuses were paid last month.

Mr. Schell's resignation leaves Carter McClelland, the former head of U.S. investment banking for Germany's Deutche Bank, as Montgomery's sole head of investment banking for now.
