Results from Milliman Global Inc.'s 13th annual survey of HMOs and PPOs indicate a significant increase in insurers' interest in consumer-driven health plans.
Among those insurers who responded to the survey, 89% said they expect to offer a consumer-driven health plan to employers within the next year, up from 29% in last year's survey, the Seattle consulting firm said in a press release Thursday.
Consumer-driven health plans are high-deductible plans with an integrated employee account, such as a Healthcare Reimbursement Account or Health Savings Account.
Milliman's annual survey of HMOs was expanded this year to also cover PPOs and to include questions on consumer-driven health plans. The survey was sent to the nation's HMOs and fully insured PPOs that serve the commercial large group employer market. About 40% of those who were sent surveys responded.
The final results from survey will be published this month.
