J.P. Morgan & Co. said Wednesday that Stephen G. Thieke, head of corporate risk management, will retire in the summer and Peter D. Hancock, currently head of global fixed income, will take over directing capital and risk strategy.

Mr. Hancock, 40, is to be chairman of the bank's capital committee and its risk management committee.
