In Brief: NCUA: S.F. Credit Union Open to All

WASHINGTON - The National Credit Union Administration on Thursday gave permission to a San Francisco credit union to accept any city resident as a member.

The NCUA did so by unanimously approving an application from San Francisco Federal Credit Union to convert to a community charter.

The agency's board members agreed that though 746,000 people live in the city, it meets the definition of "community" because it is geographically compact and local activism is strong.

The agency rejected an application by Delaware Federal Credit Union to get a community charter that would have let it draw members from its entire state.
