In Brief: NetBank Signs Deal For Wireless Service

ATLANTA — NetBank is offering its customers wireless banking services through a contract with Air2Web Inc.

Customers can use Air2Web’s technology to gain access to their account balances and transactions through wireless devices. They can subscribe to and personalize the wireless service by visiting NetBank’s Web site, entering their mobile phone number, and identifying a picture of their device.

“We felt the Air2Web people were closest to having the kind of solution we wanted to offer to our customers,” said D.R. Grimes, NetBank’s chief executive officer. “In addition, it was important for us to find someone who was compatible with our outsourcing vendors.”

Air2Web, a privately held, one-year-old company, has about 15 customers, including United Parcel Service, which uses the wireless platform to track packages; Digital Insight, which is beta testing wireless services with four community banks; and Vertical One Corp.
