In Brief: PNC Names Schmidt to Head Biz Banking

PITTSBURGH - PNC Bank said Wednesday that it had appointed Jeffrey Schmidt as the manager of its business banking unit.

Mr. Schmidt was the chief operating officer for PNC's consumer lending unit. Before joining the company seven years ago he was the was the manager of consumer credit at Chemical Bank New Jersey. Earlier he was a small-business lending manager for Midlantic National Bank for 17 years.

Also Wednesday, the parent PNC Financial Services Group Inc. announced that it had made $319 million of small-business loan commitments in the first nine months of the year, 29.6% more than a year earlier. Including renewals, small-business lending rose 34.6%, to $1.1 billion.
