Putnam Investments said it has hired Deirdre Phillips to be a senior vice president and director of government relations.
She is to be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key public officials and for working on legislation and regulatory matters, the company said on Thursday. Her job is a newly created post.
Ms. Phillips had been director of federal government relations at FleetBoston Financial Corp. since 1999; FleetBoston was bought by Bank of America last spring. Previously, she had represented BankBoston Corp. to government officials since 1984.
At Sept. 30 Putnam managed $209 billion of assets in about 11 million individual shareholder accounts and 500 institutional accounts.
