Standard & Poor's said Monday that it has added an option to its Portfolio Advisor platform to give financial advisers the ability to create portfolios for their fee-based clients that include individual stocks.

Portfolio Advisor is a Web-based platform that lets financial advisers structure clients' investment portfolios using Standard & Poor's model allocation portfolios.

The new option offers baskets of stocks that can be customized by the adviser based upon individual investors' preferences. The company charges a platform fee for all the services available in Portfolio Advisor, including research, technology, and account maintenance. Unlike separately managed accounts' fee structure, however, no additional investment management fee is charged by Standard & Poor's.

Exchange-traded funds also are available on Portfolio Advisor.
