David Kuhn has joined Balboa Insurance Group Inc., the Irvine, Calif., insurance subsidiary of Countrywide Financial Corp., as the executive vice president of agency and business insurance operations.

Mr. Kuhn's hiring was announced Thursday. He will lead efforts to build the commercial insurance division and expand the capabilities of Balboa's retail agency, Countrywide Insurance Services Inc.
Most recently he was the regional president for St. Paul Travelers Cos. Before that he held executive management positions at Hartford Specialty, Travelers, and Aetna.
