NEW YORK - The law firm Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering said it had hired Bruce H. Newman, director of compliance for capital markets at UBS Warburg LLC, as resident counsel in its New York office.
Mr. Newman had held the capital markets compliance post at UBS Warburg since he joined the firm last year, when UBS AG bought PaineWebber Inc. Before that he had held the same post at PaineWebber since 1997, the law firm said last Thursday.
While at UBS and PaineWebber, Mr. Newman designed, installed, and maintained a program to ensure that the firm's securities businesses operated in compliance with relevant rules and regulations. Before joining PaineWebber as assistant general counsel in 1996, he had been branch chief of the broker-dealer enforcement division at the Securities and Exchange Commission for two years.
