In Brief: Wireless PDA Access for Fleet Customers

BOSTON - FleetBoston Financial announced Monday that its online banking customers can use their Palm-compatible personal digital assistants to access their banking, credit card, and brokerage accounts and do transactions, including bill payments.

Fleet says it is the first major commercial bank in the Northeast to offer wireless access to account services and bill payments.

Fleet's HomeLink online banking customers can view deposit, credit, and investment account balances, including the 10 most recent transactions; schedule funds transfers; pay bills to current payees; review and delete scheduled payments and transfers; and receive HomeLink alert messages.

PC and wireless access to HomeLink is free to all Fleet checking account customers.

Robert B. Hedges Jr., managing director of retail distribution for Fleet, said initial response by HomeLink users to the wireless offer "has surpassed our own expectations."
