iPay POS Credit Card Terminal, the new version of the mobile-payment acceptance application called ProcessAway, now works with multiple gateways and comes with a card reader to accommodate card-present transactions, according to Randy Palermo, who developed the application that works on Apple Inc.'s iPhone.

Rapadev LLC, Palermo's Tustin, Calif.-based firm, released iPay POS July 28. ProcessAway launched last year.

Previously, merchants had to choose a ProcessAway version based on the online payment gateway they used, Palermo tells PaymentsSource. ProcessAway had versions for merchants using CyberSource Corp.'s Authorize.Net gateway and for Network Merchants Inc.'s gateway. iPay POS now supports seven other gateways, Palermo says, noting he wants to add more.

Supporting multiple gateways makes it easier for independent sales organizations to resell iPay POS, he says.

"We don't want to actively recruit merchant accounts with iPay POS because we want the support of the gateways we link to," Palermo says. "We would like ISOs that use NMI or SkipJack or any of the other gateways to be able to recommend our software, have them go to our website for details, without them worrying about [whether] we are going to try to steal away the lead once they are at our Web page."

Merchants are free to use their existing merchant accounts, or Rapadev may refer them to Prolific Payment Solutions LLC, an Austin, Texas-based ISO, Palermo says.

Rapadev also wanted to get the application certified to the Payment Application Data Security Standard, which required consolidating the service into one application, he says.

iPay POS for the first time supports a card reader, available for $74.95, enabling merchants to accept less-expensive card-present transactions. Cypress, Calif.-based IDTech manufactures the reader.

iPay POS is free to download from Apple's iTunes store. Merchants initially receive 10 free transactions, after which they pay 99 cents for 10 more transactions or $29.99 for unlimited transactions.
