Koehler, who joined KeyCorp in 1998, was most recently executive vice president in charge of its 340-branch Great Lakes operation in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. As head of the so-called community banking division, he will oversee more than 8,000 employees across a 14-state branch network.

KeyCorp also has renamed its national bank — its second main operating division — and changed the title of the division's head. It is now called the corporate bank, and its existing chief, Christopher Gorman, has taken the title of president. He was previously vice chairman of the division, which houses KeyCorp's investment bank, corporate bank and equipment finance arm. KeyCorp said in a press release that the name change emphasizes the division's business services.

Mooney will succeed Henry Meyer as chairman and CEO in May 2011. She was named KeyCorp's president and chief operating officer in November.
