Mopay Expands Payment System To Landline Phone Accounts

Mopay Inc., a Germany-based mobile-payments company, has rolled out a service that enables online merchants to bill purchases on a consumer's landline phone bill account.

Mopay's primary billing option enables consumers to charge digital goods and services to their mobile phone bill.

Under the landline system, a Mopay payment screen during the online checkout process will prompt a consumer to authorize the purchase through an automated phone call. Mopay's system charges the landline phone account once authorization is complete.

No registration is required to use the system and is available to anyone with access to a landline phone.

Mopay plans to expand its mobile system to the United States later this year (see story).
