Mr. Pasteris will oversee New York Life's operations as the life insurance and income annuity provider for AARP's 38 million members; its long-term-care insurance operations; and the group membership unit, which provides group life insurance coverage for members of associations nationally.

He will continue to direct New York Life's retirement income business and will continue to report to Ted Mathas, its president and chief operating officer, the insurer said Tuesday.

Mr. Pasteris joined New York Life in 2005 after working 17 years with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., most recently as the president of its financial products division.
