Northern Trust Corp. of Chicago announced Tuesday that it has hired Robert P. Browne as the chief investment officer of Northern Trust Global Investments.
Mr. Browne had been the chief investment officer for fixed income and proprietary investment at ING Investment Management in Atlanta. Before that he was a managing director and co-head of North American fixed-income teams for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Browne held senior fixed-income portfolio management positions at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Japan and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Browne, 43, reports to Stephen N. Potter, the president of Northern Trust Global Investments. Mr. Browne succeed Orie Dudley, who retired last year after eight years as the unit's chief investment officer.
Northern Trust had $3 trillion of assets under custody, including $575.5 billion under management, at the end of 2008. The company has 85 offices in the United States and international offices in 15 countries.
