Mr. Dunham joined the Chicago company Monday from Bank of New York Mellon Corp., where he was director of national sales and marketing.

He will report to Penelope Biggs, the head of Northern Trust's worldwide asset servicing business development, and will manage institutional sales teams in Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and Toronto.

Mr. Dunham will direct sales of Northern Trust's asset servicing investment products and services, including global custody, benefit payments, fund administration, and investment operations outsourcing.

He will work with Northern Trust Global Investments, the company's $757 billion-asset management arm, to strengthen cross-selling.

Last year Northern Trust promoted Peter Cherecwich, a former State Street Corp. executive, to head of global products and strategy.

Northern Trust had $4.1 trillion of assets under custody and $757.2 billion of assets under management as of Dec. 31.
