PayPal in Deal with American Airlines

PayPal Inc. has announced that American Airlines Inc. now accepts its service for ticket purchases online.

The San Jose unit of eBay Inc. has been moving aggressively since last year to put its payment system on the Web sites of numerous airlines. It was already accepted online by JetBlue Airways Corp. in New York, Southwest Airlines Co. in Dallas, and Northwest Airlines Inc. in Eagan, Minn., before it announced the American Airlines deal Monday.

PayPal also works with Universal Air Travel Plan Inc., the Washington corporate payment card provider that is owned by several airlines. Last month, PayPal said it would buy Bill Me Later Inc., a rival payments provider that has deals with air carriers including Continental Airlines Inc. in Houston.

American Airlines is a unit of AMR Corp. in Fort Worth.
