Profits of BancTexas Group took big hit in quarter.

DALLAS -- BancTexas Group Inc. said its third-quarter net income dropped from a year earlier because of a decrease in its net interest margin. The $321 million-asset holding company for BankTexas said its net income dropped to $304,000 from $510,000.

For the first nine months of 1993, net income increased only slightly over the year-earlier period, to $941,000. Chairman Nathan C. Collins said the company continues to sell consumer loans while keeping the servicing to boost fee income, and has opened a branch in north Dallas.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Continental Savings of America lost $260,000 in the third quarter after writedowns of $1.3 million in its portfolio of real estate owned. Comparable 1992 net income was $1.3 million.

The $521-million-asset company's foreclosed real estate declined in the quarter from $31 million to $21.6 million.

PASADENA, Calif.-- Cenfed Financial Corp., holding company of the $1.3 billion-asset Cenfed Bank, said its net income jumped 21 % in the third quarter to $2.2 million. The company recently completed the purchase of $219 million of deposits from a competitor in Pasadena.
