Prosper Makes Lending Club Exec CIO

Prosper Marketplace Inc. is beefing up its investment team, recruiting a managing director from its biggest rival Lending Club Corp.

The company behind the social lending website Prosper.com said it had hired Joseph Toms, effective Monday, as its chief investment officer.

Toms will work with James Alexander, who Prosper hired in mid-March as executive vice president of investment sales, to drive growth of the San Francisco company's lender base, both retail and institutional.

Toms previously was managing director for Lending Club Advisors, a Lending Club subsidiary, responsible for marketing, communications and sales.
