S1 first announced its work with PayPal in November 2009, when the eBay Inc. unit launched its PayPal X development platform. Using this platform, S1 adapted PayPal's service so that users could initiate transfers to PayPal accounts from within online banking or mobile banking.

"The integration with PayPal through S1 enables our credit union to meet our goals of providing 24x7 mobile payment services that meet our members' needs," Pete Paulson, the chief executive of Corporate America Family Credit Union in Elgin, Ill., said in a press release Tuesday.

S1 did not identify its other clients. Past announcements have named Mercantile Bank of Michigan as the first S1 client to use its PayPal link.

The PayPal X platform allows banks, vendors and other application developers to use the PayPal system for new uses, such as mobile and online bill payments. The platform allows PayPal to be more of an ally to banks than it was in its early years.
