The student loan provider SLM Corp. on Monday named Paul Thome the president of its retail bank subsidiary, Sallie Mae Bank.
Thome, who was most recently the senior vice president of business finance and procurement at SLM, better known as Sallie Mae, takes over the role from Mark Howard, who resigned from the company.
Before joining Sallie Mae in 2009, Thome was the chief financial officer of Credit One Financial Services.
Previously, he spent 10 years at MBNA, now part of Bank of America Corp., where was executive vice president of corporate development, mergers and acquisitions.
There have been a string of personnel changes at the company.
In January its chief financial officer, John F. ("Jack") Remondi, was named to the newly created role of president and chief operating officer.
Jonathan C. Clark, executive vice president and treasurer, was named as the CFO successor.
Additionally, Sallie Mae hired Laurent C. Lutz from BearingPoint Inc. to be executive vice president and general counsel.
