Scottrade Opening 5th Nevada Branch

The St. Louis investment firm Scottrade Inc. is opening a branch today in North Las Vegas, Nev.

The branch is Scottrade's fourth in the Las Vegas area and its fifth in Nevada. The others are in Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, and Reno.

Scottrade, which has 375 branches nationally, announced plans to open the North Las Vegas office last week. It does not provide investment advice in its branches, but it does provide stock brokers who can answer account-related questions, provide customer service, and give tutorials on online trading services.

On Saturday, Scottrade launched its 2009 User Summit program with a workshop for investors in Orlando. The workshop was one of 24 Scottrade plans to host nationwide this year, doubling the number held last year.

During the workshops, investors can network with other investors and learn how to manage accounts and use Scottrade's trading platforms.

Topics covered at the User Summits include finding opportunities with stock and exchange-traded fund screeners; making pre-market and after-hours online trades; learning the economic calendar for initial public offerings, earnings, and splits; and setting up alerts for account-specific updates.
