Services Today for Paul Cushman, 35, Riggs Exec Killed in Dubrovnik

It has been confirmed that Paul Cushman 3d, an executive with Riggs National Corp., was one of 35 people killed last Wednesday when a plane carrying Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown crashed in severe weather near Dubrovnik, Croatia.

A memorial service for Mr. Cushman, 35, will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. John's Episcopal Church here.

He was part of a delegation of U.S. business executives accompanying Mr. Brown to explore investment opportunities in the war-battered Balkans.

The 13-year veteran of the Washington-based banking company was an executive vice president at Riggs Bank and chairman and chief executive of Riggs International Banking Corp., a subsidiary.

"Paul was a truly exceptional man and international banker and died serving his country and working for his bank," Riggs chairman Joe L. Allbritton said in a statement.

Nancy Tuomey, a vice president at Riggs International, originally was reported to be on the plane. But in fact Ms. Tuomey flew into Zagreb, Croatia, on an earlier flight, a Riggs spokesman said.
