Dreyfus Corp. has promoted Mark N. Jacobs to general counsel, replacing Daniel C. Maclean, who has retired.

Mr. Jacobs, 50, joined Dreyfus in 1977 and has held a series of positions in the fund company's legal department.

In 1992, he became deputy general counsel and was named a vice president-legal in 1994.

Mr. Jacobs is a member of the North American Securities Administrators Association's industry advisory group.

Before coming to Dreyfus, he worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission's New York regional office for five years.

Mr. Maclean has agreed to serve as a consultant to the mutual fund company in his retirement, a spokeswoman said.
