Smart Bits: Multipurpose ID Card Is Issued on Campus

PNC Bank Corp. is providing Duquesne University students with a multifunctioning identification card.

The new DU Card has been issued to about 12,000 students, faculty members, and employees, and is already being used on campus as a cash card. The magnetic-stripe card can be used at automated teller machines and point of sale networks if it is linked to a PNC checking account.

Value can be loaded onto the cards through special cash to card machines on campus. The stored value portion of the card is accepted on campus at vending machines, photocopying machines, restaurants, and to pay for parking, as well as at selected nearby merchants. The card can also be used for library check-out, on-line searches, and to record time and attendance at campus jobs.

PNC has three ATMs on campus and plans to open an automated banking center.
