SouthCrest in Ga. Taps Former Heritage Bank Exec as CEO

SouthCrest Financial Group in Woodstock, Ga., has found a new leader after his predecessor departed eight months ago.

Brian Schmitt will serve as chief executive and president of both the $550 million-asset SouthCrest Bank and its holding company starting Aug. 8. Schmitt will also be named a director for both entities.

Schmitt replaces Kenneth Maloy, who had served as CEO since 2011 and resigned in December for undisclosed reasons.

Schmitt previously was CEO of the Atlanta market for Heritage Bank of the South in Albany, Ga., according to Bloomberg. The $8.5 billion-asset Renasant Corp. in Tupelo, Miss., acquired Heritage in July 2015. Schmitt founded Piedmont Bank of Georgia in 2001 and was CEO of the bank and its parent, Piedmont Bancshares.

SouthCrest operates 12 branches in Georgia and Alabama.
