Sovereign Bank has recruited a Wells Fargo & Co. executive to oversee its retail branch network.
The U.S. unit of Spanish banking company Santander Group said Wednesday that David Miree recently joined the bank as executive vice president and managing director of the retail network, in charge of overseeing all of Sovereign's 721 branches, the brokerage and investment division and business banking.
Miree, who was most recently an executive vice president and regional president of greater Pennsylvania for Wells Fargo, will report to Nuno Matos, who oversees all of the bank's retail businesses, segments and channels, including the branch network. As managing director of retail banking, Matos reports directly to Sovereign's president and chief executive, Jorge Moran.
The move was designed to integrate retail and small business banking, Sovereign said, centralizing oversight of product development, sales distribution and support under Matos.
Sovereign, based in Boston, became part of Santander Group in early 2009. Its branches extend along the East Coast from Maine to Maryland.
