State Street Confidence Gauge Declines

The State Street Investor Confidence Index fell 2.4 points this month from August, to 70.7, the third-lowest level in its history, according to State Street Global Markets.

Confidence among North American investors remained "subdued," rising just 0.9 points, to 76.1, the investment research and trading arm of State Street Corp. said Tuesday. Confidence among Asian investors fell 2.5 points, from 88.3.

By contrast, confidence among European investors climbed 5.4 points, to 81.8.

State Street Global Markets' research arm, State Street Associates, compiles the index by analyzing the buying and selling patterns of institutional investors.
