State Street Hires Two Equity Execs

State Street Corp., Boston, hired two equity managers this week.

Shawn C.D. Johnson was hired to be director of research for State Street Global Advisors' trust and investment unit, which primarily serves wealthy people. He joins State Street from MGA Software, Concord, Mass., where he was responsible for developing products.

Also joining State Street is Guy Scott, who will manage new small and mid-cap portfolios as a vice president in the trust unit. Mr. Scott had worked for Boston Co., a subsidiary of Mellon Bank Corp., where he was a portfolio manager.

Mr. Johnson reports to Anthony W. Ryan, chief investment officer. He is responsible to expand research to cover the stocks of companies with small and midsize market capitalizations. Previously, the unit focused on large- cap stocks. He succeeds Robert G. Barker, who is now an analyst covering technology company stocks.

Before his stint at MGA, Mr. Johnson was a manager at Braxton Associates, a Boston division of Deloitte & Touche that does consulting for electronics, communications, aerospace and defense, and software companies.

Mr. Scott reports to Phoebe Zaslove, managing director of the trust unit's special investor group. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Scott will also work on investment strategies outside the trust unit.
