Sun Bancorp in Mount Laurel, N.J., has elected another independent director as chairman.
The $2.1 billion-asset parent of Sun National Bank said in a press release Tuesday that Anthony Coscia will serve in that role for both starting Dec. 31.
Coscia, a director of the company and bank since 2010 and 2011 respectively, will succeed Sidney Brown, who announced in October that he would step down as chairman at the end of the year but remain on the board. Brown, the chief executive of the supply chain provider NFI in Cherry Hill, N.J., was appointed chairman in 2013.
Coscia is a partner with the New York law firm Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf and previously served as chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.
Coscia "is well-respected and experienced in matters of corporate governance, finance and economic development," Thomas O'Brien, president and CEO of Sun Bancorp, said in the release. "All of our stakeholders are well served by this appointment and we are fortunate that Tony has agreed to undertake this new responsibility."
