The operations subsidiaries of SunTrust Banks Inc. and Firstar Corp. have installed a system from Antinori Software Inc. that automates fulfillment of research requests on check items.
The software, called Transit Research System, displays the deposit and cash letter order of all checks that pass through the bank's check capture system and provides the capability to reconstruct lost cash letters or bundles quickly.
The system is designed to handle research requests from a single desktop workstation.
Celia MacKenzie, manager of adjustments at SunTrust Service Corp., Miami, said the new system has cut down research time from an average of 22 minutes an item to 12 minutes.
In the past, a clerk would search for information in microfiche or paper files, then copy the item and complete the adjustment.
The system enables a clerk to trace the path of an item from the time it enters the bank until its disposition. All check processing and archival information is stored on optical disk and is available immediately on line.
Clerks in the research and adjustments area can select the type of search to be done and enter all the known criteria.
The system will display everything that satisfies the criteria.
