Tech Bytes: Internet Billing System Uses RSA Encryption

RSA Data Security Inc. said Just in Time Solutions of San Francisco has incorporated RSA data encryption technology into its BillCast Internet billing systems.

Just in Time relied on RSA's BSAFE Crypto-C and Crypto-J components for security in its bill presentment and Open Financial Exchange software.

In addition to the SSL-Secure Sockets Layer-encryption provided through Web browsers, Just in Time has added RSA digital signature and encryption techniques.

"Security is not only critical, it is an absolute requirement" for bill paying over the Internet, said Just in Time president and chief operating officer Kevin Han. "By partnering with industry leader RSA, we have made security a nonissue for our customers.

"In addition, our developers can spend their time focusing on adding value to BillCast rather than worrying about security issues."

In a separate announcement related to BSAFE Crypto-J, which serves the Java programming language, RSA said it fully supports the latest release of the Java Development Kit, version 1.2.

Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing, said this move plus the previous releases of Crypto-J and BSAFE SSL-J components "reinforces our commitment to Java software developers by supporting the latest functionality of the Java platform."
