Tompkins Financial in N.Y. Buys Insurance Agency

Tompkins Financial in Ithaca, N.Y., has acquired an insurance agency in upstate New York.

The $5.6 billion-asset Tompkins said in a press release Wednesday that its Tompkins Insurance Agencies unit bought Shepard, Maxwell & Hale Insurance. The price was not disclosed.

Shepard, Maxwell & Hale had offices in Batavia and Hamlin, N.Y. Tompkins closed the Batavia office.

Tompkins is a multibank holding company that operates Tompkins Bank of Castile in Wyoming County, N.Y., and three other banks in New York and Pennsylvania. Tompkins Insurance provides personal and commercial insurance.
