Top Card Exec At Citi to Retire

Roberta Arena, Citicorp's top credit card executive, plans to retire at the end of the year.

Her plan became known Friday in an internal memo from chairman John S. Reed that laid out significant changes in the retail banking organization.

Ms. Arena, 49, was one of several key executives reporting to Mr. Reed under a structure that took effect early last year. But as part of the current realignment, she is reporting to William Campbell, who as head of the global consumer business oversees consumer banking, credit cards, and private banking.

"We are looking to find ways to integrate the card and branch business more aggressively," said spokeswoman Susan Weeks.

Alvaro de Souza, who had headed private banking, takes over U.S. Citibanking - the branch-card integration effort. Shaukat Aziz, corporate planning officer in the 1996 organization, will take over private banking.
