Lizabeth H. Zlatkus, 49, was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer, the Hartford, Conn., company said Monday. She will report to Ramani Ayer, the company's chairman and chief executive officer, and will succeed David M. Johnson, who announced last month that he planned to leave the company by the middle of this year.

John C. Walters, 46, was promoted to president and chief operating officer of Hartford's life insurance arm. He will continue to report to Thomas Marra, the company's president and chief operating officer.

Hartford said it expects the promotions to take effect May 1 following a transition period.
