NEW YORK — UBS AG was in talks with various parties to purchase a prime brokerage operation as recently as a month ago, The New York Post reported on its Web site Thursday, citing a banker familiar with UBS' plans.
It's unclear where talks currently stand, given that UBS on Tuesday announced massive writedowns and the ouster of Chairman Marcel Ospel, the report said.
Bank of America Corp. is said to be one of the firms that UBS has had discussions with, sources said, according to the report.
Spokesmen from the companies declined to comment, the report said.
