University Federal Credit Union in Austin creates new president role

University Federal Credit Union in Austin, Texas, created the new role of president and filled it from within its executive ranks.

The $3.8 billion-asset institution said Wednesday that Michael Crowl will be the first person to hold the new position. Crowl most recently served as the credit union’s executive vice president of member experience and will oversee UFCU’s efforts to empower members and communities in achieving financial health.

Crowl will continue reporting to UFCU Chief Executive Tony Budet.

“Michael has linked arms with other leaders and individual contributors at UFCU to lead teams to outstanding growth and accomplishment,” Budet said in a press release. “He has intimate knowledge of our operations and culture and advocates for member-centric innovation and mechanisms that enhance member value.”

Crowl joined UFCU in 2005 and was appointed as its chief financial officer in 2012. He was later named senior vice president of planning and execution and CFO before being appointed EVP of member experience in 2019.

University FCU has more than 336,000 members in Central Texas and Galveston County.

The credit union earned approximately $12.6 million in the second quarter, compared with $13.4 million a year earlier, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.
