U.S. Bancorp announced the addition of mobile remote deposit capture to its mobile banking features.
The Minneapolis company said Monday that its Deposit Point Mobile service lets its mobile banking customers deposit checks into a checking or savings account by photographing them with a mobile phone's camera.
The service currently works on Apple Inc.'s iPhone. The bank said it would offer remote deposit on handsets that run Google Inc.'s Android system by this summer.
U.S. Bancorp is also adding the ability to receive real-time alerts about credit card activity as text messages or e-mails. These alerts, sent in real time, could inform users of potential fraud on their accounts.
"These enhancements are the result of dynamic and integrated work across the company with the goal of bringing mobile convenience to more customers in more lines of business," Mac McCullough, U.S. Bancorp's executive vice president and chief strategy officer, said in a press release.
