VeriFone Gets Taxi Deal in South Africa

VeriFone Holdings Inc. said Thursday that it would deploy its taxi payment terminals in South Africa through a distribution agreement with iMobilise Transportation Systems.

iMobilise said it expects to install hardware from the San Jose company in 1,500 taxis in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town by June in anticipation of the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament. The terminals accept credit cards, chip-and-PIN debit, and contactless payments. The terminals can also display advertising to riders.
