Visa Gets a Jump on the Super Bowl

NEW YORK - Trying to make the most of its sponsorship of the Super Bowl, Visa U.S.A. has already begun promotions tied to the late-January football extravaganza in Tampa.

Two trips to the Super Bowl, including game tickets, airfare, and hotel accommodations, are the grand prize in a sweepstakes promotion with the New York City Transit Authority.

And one such trip is the prize in a sweepstakes with the Modell's Sporting Goods chain of stores.

Entry in the contests is automatic through Nov. 26 with Visa card purchases of N.Y.C. Transit MetroCards - magnetic-stripe cards that hold bus and subway fares - and all month long with purchases from Modell's.

The N.Y.C. Transit prizes also include six $5,000 Visa National Football League gift cards.

Jason Sehorn and Michael Strahan of the New York Giants and Wayne Chrebet and Kevin Mawae of the New York Jets will be featured in game action photos on 500,000 MetroCards, which will be sold from vending machines. The four players will also be featured in subway and bus advertising.

Armen Khachadourian, senior vice president of new market acceptance for Visa U.S.A., said, "Our promotion with N.Y.C. Transit is one more way we can help our cardholders learn about the new and emerging points of purchase where they can leverage the power and reach of the Visa payment system."
