Sixteen Illinois banks recently joined NYCE Payments Network LLC's SUM Selective surcharge-free ATM program, NYCE announced today. Fifteen community banks are members of Wintrust Financial Corp., which is based in Lake Forest, Ill. Amcore Bank of Rockford, Ill., also joined SUM, which stands for Saves U Money. SUM recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Secaucus, N.J.-based SUM operates 200 surcharge-free ATMs in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin and nearly 2,900 surcharge-free machines overall in 27 states and Puerto Rico. Through SUM, NYCE enables banks to determine the number of ATMs they want to participate, Sam Baumgarten, a NYCE spokesperson, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. Banks also do not pay a monthly royalty fee as SUM members. NYCE charges participating banks based on cardholder use, the network says in a news release.
