Allpoint, the nation's largest surcharge-free ATM network, recently added and subtracted some machines but wound up with a net gain in hardware. The Bethesda, Md.-based company added more than 5,500 7-Eleven Inc. ATMs and Vcoms, or multifunctional ATMs, to its nationwide offering, says Ben Psillas, Allpoint founder and president.
The company also jettisoned 2,000 underperforming ATMs, Psillas says. The company
dropped those weaker machines because they were unprofitable. Many were often down, and merchants had unplugged them, he says.
The bottom line is that the company now operates 35,000 surcharge-free ATMs, up from 32,000, Psillas says. Cardtronics Inc., the Houston-based ISO, owns Allpoint and the 7-Eleven machines.
